Prices seem stable with some small movements up and down as seems natural. Large-size type notes continue to dominate the market. Small-size has been a bit erratic as there are bargains in relation to prices in the Federal Reserve Note area. I suspect the issue is demand from collectors, because supplies of scarce FRNs are not large.
Most collectors have an item atop their want list that is often known in hobby parlance as their “holy grail” or “white whale.” What I sought unsuccessfully was a National Bank Note signed by Ty Cobb.
Good Deals Sought at Annual CPMX
Dealers were hunting for good deals and good business at the Chicago Paper Money Exposition.
“This is a better show than last year for me,” said Joe Peruski of Monroe Currency and Coin, Monroe, Mich. Interviewed during the 19th annual CPMX, March 7-10, at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare in Rosemont, Ill., Peruski characterized this year’s CPMX as a “strong show,” adding that attendance was solid.
Inverted W Notes Intriguing Errors
One of the most fun and intriguing serial numbering errors to appear were $1 Series of 1957 Silver Certificates with an inverted W in place of an M in the upper right serial number
Bidders Braved Cold Nights for Jorde Auction
The nights and the days were very cold in Fargo, N.D., the week of Jan. 20-26, with actual temperatures in the 20-below-zero range, and wind chills of 30 below. However, the weather did not stop, or even slow down the weekend events. Glen Jorde’s collection of North Dakota National Bank Notes were at auction courtesy of Lyn Knight Currency Auctions, Overland Park, Kan.
